A newborn girl was discovered in the early morning of February 9, 2024, in the baby rescue incubator located near the pediatric outpatient clinic, right by the main entrance of the Semmelweis Hospital in Kiskunhalas.
The staff at the facility have named her Zita, a name announced on the hospital’s
Facebook page.
According to initial examinations, the baby is healthy, weighing 2600 grams and measuring 46 centimeters in length. Luckily, she was found soon enough to prevent any severe drop in her body temperature, but she will still undergo thorough medical examinations and receive the necessary care. For the time being, she will remain in the newborn department of the hospital.
The hospital is unable to provide information on the baby's future or possible adoption proceedings; such matters are always handled automatically by the authorities in cases like this.
The baby rescue incubator has been operational at the Semmelweis Hospital in Kiskunhalas since July 2018, and Zita is the first baby to have been found there.
"The incubator allows for completely anonymous placement of a newborn, ensuring the baby’s safety. The integrated system automatically notifies hospital employees when a baby is left inside," the hospital added.
