Norwegian Royal's Son Faces New Assault Allegations
Listen
Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Crown Princess, linked to second rape case
In Oslo, Norway, Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested Monday on suspicion of rape.
This arrest stems from a relationship prior to Mette-Marit's marriage to Prince Haakon.
Police later revealed a second allegation, prompting them to request Hoiby's custody.
A judge approved a one-week detention, despite police seeking a two-week period.
Hoiby's lawyer, Oyvind Bratlien, plans to appeal, but noted judges' shorter detention decision as promising.
The second accusation involves non-consensual intercourse with a woman unable to resist.
This follows an earlier charge of bodily harm related to an August 4 confrontation in an Oslo apartment.
During this incident, police discovered a knife embedded in a bedroom wall.
In September, Hoiby was detained for violating a restraining order and was with the alleged victim from August at the time of his latest arrest.
Despite being raised with Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, Hoiby holds no formal public duties.
Crown Prince Haakon stated faith in judicial proceedings.
The investigation included a search of Hoiby's residence.
