In Düsseldorf, Germany, a pizzeria was implicated in an illicit operation where customers received cocaine along with their pizza orders, specifically item number 40 from the menu.
Tipped off in March by food inspectors, a police surveillance operation ensued, led by criminal director Michael Graf von Moltke.
During the arrest of the 36-year-old restaurant manager, he attempted to dispose of evidence by throwing a bag of drugs out of his apartment window, which landed with the police officers below.
They recovered 1.6kg of cocaine, 400g of cannabis, and €268,000 in cash.
Despite his initial release and brief reopening of the restaurant, a subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 12 suspects and the dismantling of a drug ring.
Searches uncovered more drugs, weapons, and cash.
The pizzeria manager was rearrested while trying to flee the country and remains in custody.
