China Conducts Military Drills Around Taiwan: A Strategic Warning
China has launched military exercises around Taiwan, aiming to send a strong warning to what it calls separatist forces on the island. The drills are part of increasing tensions between Beijing and Taipei, following Taiwan's declarations of sovereignty. These strategic maneuvers by China have been considered provocative by Taiwan, which is responding with its own military readiness measures.
China launched military exercises around Taiwan, deploying planes and ships in maneuvers described as a 'stern warning' to separatist forces on the island.
The drills, known as Joint Sword-2024B, occur amid increasingly strained relations following remarks by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te asserting the island's sovereignty.
The exercises were conducted in areas surrounding Taiwan, testing the capabilities of Chinese forces in sea-air combat readiness and blockade strategies.
These actions, seen as provocative by Taipei, have intensified the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, which trace back to the post-1949 civil war era.
Even as Taiwan dispatched its forces for countermeasures, China's Eastern Theater Command maintained their operations were essential for safeguarding state sovereignty.
