10-Year-Old Prodigy Defeats World Champion in Chess Match
In an astonishing display of skill and speed, a 10-year-old chess prodigy from Argentina, Faustino Oro, defeated the world's top-ranked player, Magnus Carlsen, in just 38 seconds over 48 moves at a prestigious rapid chess tournament.
Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian chess grandmaster who has held the title of World Chess Champion in classical, rapid, and blitz formats multiple times, was bested in the online Bullet Brawl chess competition by the young Oro. Carlsen, who has been leading the world rankings uninterrupted since 2011 and is a celebrated figure in the chess community, faced a surprising defeat from Oro, who has earned the nickname "the Messi of Chess" due to his impressive talent and Argentine nationality.
Despite his rapid victory over Carlsen, Faustino Oro finished 21st out of 156 participants with 108 points in the weekend tournament, which was ultimately won by American chess player Hikaru Nakamura. Nakamura, in his victory statement, expressed confidence that the young Argentine talent is on a fast track to earn the grandmaster title.
This event marks not the first instance this year of young talents making waves in the chess world. In February, an 11-year-old girl achieved victory over Andrea Botez, who is regarded as the world's most attractive chess player, capturing the attention of chess enthusiasts worldwide.
