Houthi Rebels Strike British Ship with Ballistic Missiles
In a recent attack on the Red Sea, Houthi rebels targeted two ships, inflicting minor damage on a British oil tanker.
The vessel, victim to the assault by the al-Allah Islamist movement, which encompasses the Houthi rebels, sustained slight damages but continues its journey.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for Middle Eastern operations, reported early Saturday that the Iran-supported Houthi militants launched three ballistic missiles from territories under their control in Yemen. The missiles were directed at two ships sailing in the Red Sea. The British-owned Andromeda Star, operating under the Panamanian flag, suffered minor damages. Meanwhile, the MV Maisha, flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, was also targeted but escaped unscathed.
Since November of the previous year, the Houthis have attacked approximately fifty ships, managing to hijack one and sink another. However, such attacks have become less frequent due to retaliatory actions by the United States and a decrease in the number of merchant ships traversing the region. Many companies now choose to navigate around Africa despite the significant increase in costs and time, aiming to avoid the threat posed by the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
