Ukrainian President criticizes Putin's manipulative tactics while seeking international support for peace initiatives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin's response to Ukraine's proposed ceasefire, describing it as typical manipulation.
In a
Facebook post on Thursday, Zelenskyy asserted that Putin's predictable answer indicates Russia's intent to reject the ceasefire, suggesting that the Russian leader fears articulating his intentions directly to U.S. President
Donald Trump.
According to Zelenskyy, Putin's preconditions for the ceasefire seem designed to create the opportunity for later dismissal of the proposal, which he characterized as part of a broader pattern of Russian deception.
Zelenskyy referenced an American proposal for an unconditional ceasefire across all fronts—land, sea, and air—which Ukraine has accepted.
He stated that the United States is ready to facilitate the monitoring of this ceasefire with the involvement of American and European forces.
Zelenskyy emphasized that a ceasefire is crucial for devising a peace plan aimed at ending the war while ensuring long-term security.
Amidst global attention on Putin's response, Zelenskyy engaged in discussions with Turkish and Dutch politicians regarding the acquisition of additional weapons to promote long-term peace and plans for post-war reconstruction in Ukraine.
He acknowledged the support from a Turkish delegation visiting Kyiv for providing the Ukrainian military with Bayraktar drones and assistance with domestic drone production, underscoring Turkey's status as a strategic partner.
Zelenskyy noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to visit Kyiv in the future, where a free trade agreement between the two nations may be ratified.
He also met with Dylan Jesilgoz-Zegeriuss, leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom and Democracy, to discuss steps towards achieving a fair and lasting peace, the transfer of F-16 aircraft and drones to Ukraine, as well as necessary investments into arms manufacturing.
Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for the support from the Dutch government, parliament, and people.
In contrast, Russia has expressed support for a ceasefire in principle but has rejected the idea of a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, positing that it would only benefit the Ukrainian leadership.
Meanwhile, the United States is planning to send a delegation to Russia to discuss the ceasefire proposal, highlighting ongoing international efforts to mediate the conflict.
