Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party won the European elections in Italy with 28 percent of the votes.

This victory boosts her leadership both domestically and in Europe.

The party improved its performance from the 26 percent it garnered in the 2022 general elections.

State broadcaster RAI projected these results based on almost 70 percent of votes counted.

The win strengthens Meloni's position in Italy and Europe, coming at the expense of Matteo Salvini’s hard-right League, which received only 8.5 percent.

The main center-left Democratic Party got 24.5 percent, and the populist Five Star Movement fell to 10.5 percent, down from the previous 17.5 percent.

Meloni, now one of the most influential figures in the EU, celebrated this outcome and committed to using it as momentum for the future.

Despite challenges like Italy's fragile public finances and the difficult 2025 budget, Meloni’s government stands strong.

Giovanni Orsina from LUISS University noted the unique stability of her government and her pivotal role.

The latest projections suggest Meloni's party will claim 23 to 25 seats in the European Parliament, up from six seats in the 2019 elections.
