On Tuesday, Hungarian authorities reported the discovery of World War II-era hand grenades and 20 kilograms of infantry ammunition in the backyard of the Gödöllő Református Líceum.

The Magyar Honvédség (Hungarian Defence Forces) 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Diver Brigade announced the findings via a social media update.

The report indicated that local police had alerted the military's explosive ordnance disposal unit after receiving information about suspected explosive devices at the school.

Military explosives experts arrived at the scene shortly after the report and began identifying the suspected ordnance, which included three German hand grenades of World War II origin and varying mixed infantry ammunition.

The hazardous materials were subsequently transported away from the school premises for safe disposal.

Prior to the arrival of the military personnel, it was confirmed that students and staff had already evacuated the school, ensuring their safety during the operation.

The find at Gödöllő follows recent incidents in Europe involving WWII ordnance.

Just days earlier, rail services at France's busiest train station, Gare du Nord in Paris, faced disruption due to the discovery of a World War II explosive device on the tracks leading to the terminal.

Additionally, there have been alarming reports of threats involving explosives in Hungary.

In February, a woman from Esztergom was charged for threatening to blow up a kindergarten.

Further, last Christmas, police responded to a bomb threat at a Budapest entertainment venue, which was later found to be false.

Investigations led to the identification and apprehension of the individual responsible for the report.
