UK Military Convoys Transit Through Hungary for NATO Exercise

British Forces Cross Hungary en route to Steadfast Dart 2025 Exercise in Romania
Between January 20 and 22, British military convoys will transit through Hungary as part of their participation in the upcoming Steadfast Dart 2025 NATO exercise in Romania, according to information provided by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence (HM) to MTI.

The exercise aims to engage nine NATO member states and approximately 10,000 troops in testing the capabilities of the NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARF), scheduled from February 7 to 21 in Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece.

The Hungarian Defence Minister, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, has stated that the Pápa and Szentes military bases will provide accommodation and logistical support for over 400 British troops.

These forces represent the leading nation of the exercise.

The transit routes for the British convoys include:

- On January 20 and 21, increased military traffic is expected between 03:00 and 07:00 along the route from the Rajka border crossing – M15 motorway – M1 highway – Route 83 – Pápa, MH 47 Air Base.

- From the evening of January 20 at 19:00 to January 21 at 04:00, and January 21 at 18:00 to January 22 at 03:00, convoys will move from Pápa, MH 47 Air Base – Route 83 – Route 8 – M7 motorway – M0 motorway – M5 motorway – Route 451 – Szentes, MH Rákóczi Ferenc 14 Engineering Regiment.

- Anticipated traffic increase again on January 21, 19:00-22:30, and January 22, 18:00-22:00 along Route 451 – Route 54 – Route 47 – M43 motorway – Route 448 – Nagylak Old Border Crossing.

The HM advises motorists to exercise heightened caution around military vehicles due to their size and differing travel characteristics compared to standard road conditions.

The Ministry expressed appreciation for public patience and understanding during these movements.

The ARF exercise is a significant operation aimed at testing deployable capabilities and procedures, involving various countries including the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, and Turkey.
