While addressing reporters at the White House, Trump noted that Ukraine is open to this arrangement, referring to it as a means of 'equalization.' It was unclear whether Trump was specifically mentioning rare earth elements or all critical minerals, but he underscored the significance of Ukraine's resources.

Rare earth minerals are vital for the production of technologies such as electric vehicle magnets, cellphones, and electronics, and they have no known alternatives.

The U.S. Geological Survey identifies 50 critical minerals essential for the U.S. economy and national defense, which include rare earths, lithium, and nickel.

Ukraine possesses substantial deposits of uranium, lithium, and titanium, although these minerals do not rank among the top reserves globally.

The U.S. has limited capacity for rare earth mining but is undertaking initiatives to boost its domestic production.

China continues to be the leading producer of rare earths and other vital minerals, holding a significant portion of the global supply.
