Traffic Restrictions in Budapest During Israeli Prime Minister's Visit

Traffic Restrictions in Budapest During Israeli Prime Minister's Visit

Dynamic road closures to be implemented from April 2 to April 6 across several districts in Budapest.
The Budapest Police Headquarters has announced significant traffic changes in the city due to the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from April 2 to April 6. The police will employ a method known as dynamic road closures, which involves temporarily closing specific road sections only when necessary for the safe passage of the protected vehicles.

These closures will affect eight districts and will impact approximately 22 kilometers of roadways, representing less than half a percent of the total road network in Budapest.

The closures are scheduled as follows:

- From 7 PM on April 2 until 1 AM on April 3: Roads including Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport access routes, Kacsóh Pongrác Street flyover, Hősök tere, Andrássy Avenue, and Széchenyi István Square will be affected.

- From 7 AM to 10 AM on April 3: The route will include Széchenyi István Square, Chain Bridge, and surrounding areas.

- Between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM on April 3: Restrictions will be in place on Színház Street, Dísz Square, and adjacent roads.

- From 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM on April 3: Closures will affect Széchenyi István Square, Eötvös Square, and various connecting streets.

- From 4 PM to 7 PM on April 3: The affected areas will include Széchenyi István Square and the Chain Bridge.

- From 7 PM to 10 PM on April 3: The route will again cover Széchenyi István Square and its surroundings.

- On April 4, multiple road closures will occur from 11 AM to 7 PM, affecting Széchenyi István Square, Kálvin Square, and other key locations in Budapest.

- On April 6 from 7 AM to 10 AM: Similar closures will be implemented, particularly around the Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport.

Additionally, parking bans will be in effect across various sections of the city from 6 AM on April 2 until midnight on April 6 to ensure security during the visit.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's trip, originally invited by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for November 2024, comes in the context of a controversial international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court regarding charges of alleged war crimes in Gaza.

In response, the Hungarian government has stated it will disregard the court's decision, which it deemed absurd.

This visit underscores Hungary's ongoing supportive relationship with Israel as one of its most consistent allies within the European Union.
