Tesla has received approval to expand its first European plant in Grünheide, just outside Berlin.
The decision came after local councillors voted 11-6, with two abstentions, allowing the company to proceed with felling 47 hectares of trees, down from the initially proposed 100 hectares.
The expansion aims to double battery production to 100 gigawatt hours and increase vehicle output to one million cars per year.
Despite opposition from environmental activists concerned about water supply and deforestation, Brandenburg's regional economy minister, Jörg Steinbach, praised the decision as beneficial for the area’s economic future.
