Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has accused the opposition of inciting the assassination attempt against him on May 15, 2023, in Handlova, central Slovakia, based on his political views.
In his first public statement since the attack, Fico dismissed the idea that the assault was the act of a lone madman.
He emphasized his belief that the attack was motivated by the political hatred fostered by the opposition.
Despite undergoing two operations and currently recovering in outpatient care at Saint Michael's Hospital in Bratislava, Fico aims to return to work by end of June or early July.
He expressed no intention of taking legal action against his 71-year-old attacker, labeling the assailant a mere conduit of broader political animosity.
