Ukraine has proposed holding the next peace summit aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine in a Global South country. The first summit took place in Switzerland in June, excluding Russia and China. Ukrainian officials hope Russia can participate in the upcoming summit, although diplomatic progress remains stalled due to territorial disputes.
The Ukrainian presidency has proposed holding the next peace summit in a Global South country to discuss ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The first summit organized by Ukraine took place in Switzerland in June, with over 90 states attending but excluding Russia and China.
Speaking at a forum in Kyiv, Andriy Yermak, a top Ukrainian official, expressed hope that Russia could participate in the upcoming summit.
Meanwhile, diplomatic progress appears stalled as the Kremlin insists it will not negotiate under the current conditions, particularly concerning territorial disputes.
This announcement comes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kyiv advocating for peace, although no significant breakthroughs were noted.
Modi and other Global South leaders, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, have engaged with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but a meeting with China's Xi Jinping, Russia's key ally, has yet to be realized.
