China's State Security Ministry has accused Britain's foreign intelligence service MI6 of recruiting two staff members from unnamed Chinese central state bodies as spies.
The accused, a married couple surnamed Wang and Zhou, are under further investigation.
This case adds to months of mutual espionage accusations between China and Britain.
In January, Beijing claimed MI6 used a foreigner in China for intelligence gathering.
Conversely, British prosecutors recently charged individuals with supplying information to China and aiding Hong Kong's foreign intelligence service in the UK.
The Chinese ministry alleges that Wang was recruited while studying in the UK in 2015, drawn by monetary incentives and later trained in espionage.
Wang allegedly returned to China to collect government information, and his wife Zhou was also recruited by MI6.
A spokesperson for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declined to comment on these claims, citing government policy on intelligence matters.
