Although the newcomers, Lion Heart, were playing in their first ever final, they matched the Boys from VG virtually kick for kick and the two sides were inseparable at the break, locked at 1-1.

Terrence Nanton had put Sugar Boys ahead in the 10th minute only for Sheldon Brown to level matters for Lion Heart in the 13th minute.

However, you can never discount the effect Redhead can have on a game and not for the first time he popped up big when it mattered most and netted the go ahead goal and what proved to be the winner in the 40th minute.

Redhead’s goal also earned him a share of the Golden Boot Trophy, along with team mate Norman Hernandez.

Lion Heart skipper Dwayne Smith was philosophical in defeat, noting that his team had shown too much respect early on to the Sugar Boys and lost the midfield battle and ultimately the game.

Awards

BVIFA President, Mr Andy Bickerton presented the awards, which included the Champions Trophy and a winner’s check for $4000 dollars to the Sugar Boys as well as the Fair Play Trophy.

The Golden Glove award, which goes to the most outstanding goalkeeper, went to Lindell Williams of Sugar Boys.

Lion Heart received $2000.

Mr Bickerton congratulated Lion Heart for being a very new team and making it to the finals, knocking out seasoned teams.

He said Lion Heart are now better experienced for upcoming tournaments.
