Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirms upcoming discussions aimed at normalizing relations between Moscow and Washington.
The Kremlin has announced that discussions between Russia and the United States are set to take place on April 10 in Istanbul, with details pertaining to the delegation representing Russia still to be confirmed.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that these talks will be conducted through the Foreign Ministry and emphasized the significant efforts being made by both Moscow and Washington to normalize their relations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated earlier in April that preparations for another meeting were underway, aimed at addressing factors hindering bilateral relations and moving towards normalization.
The restoration of dialogue between Moscow and Washington began with a meeting of delegations on February 18 in Riyadh.
During this meeting, both parties agreed to establish conditions for the full resumption of bilateral cooperation, lift restrictions on embassy operations, and initiate a process to address the situation in Ukraine.
In the discussions held in Istanbul at the end of February, the Russian and U.S. delegations reached agreements on steps to fund embassy operations and discussed the possibility of restoring direct air travel between the two countries.
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President
Donald Trump have had two phone conversations in the past two months, focusing on cooperation between their countries.
Last week, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), visited the United States to hold discussions with representatives of the Trump administration.
During a press conference near the White House on April 3, Dmitriev conveyed that progress had been made on various issues and reiterated the need for further meetings to resolve outstanding disputes.
