Newly Established Sovereignty Protection Office Finally Reveals Some Information
Although it still lacks an official website and its headquarters are located in the Parliament Building, the Sovereignty Protection Office has at least released its regulations.
Officially established a month ago amid criticism, the Sovereignty Protection Office appointed former government official and government propagandist, business associate of Árpád Habony, Tamás Lánczi, as its head.
Hvg.hu reported on February 8 that the new agency did not have a website, and this remained true as of March 1: at least Google searches yielded no results.
However, a late-night publication in the Official Gazette included Instruction No. 1 from the president on the Organizational and Operational Regulations of the Sovereignty Protection Office. While the Parliament Building is still listed as the headquarters, the document provides some insight into the institution. Without a website, details such as the names of leaders other than the president, the number of staff, the budget, email addresses, and phone numbers remain confidential. Yet, it is now known that the president directly oversees:
- The Directorate of Analysis, which lays the groundwork for individual investigations,
- The Directorate of Investigations,
- The Directorate of Public Relations, which is responsible, among other things, for "creating a uniform, transparent, and comprehensible marketing strategy that aligns with the institution's vision, strategy, and values,"
- The Research Institute,
- The Secretariat,
- The Security Office,
- The Press Office,
- The Presidential Secretariat,
- And the internal auditor.
In addition to these, there also exists a Budget and Management Office, a Maintenance and Asset Management Office, and an Operational Legal and Procurement Office.
More information about the Sovereignty Protection Office may be forthcoming soon.
