Neighbours Criticise Germany Over Extended Border Controls

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk condemned Germany’s decision to extend temporary border controls calling it 'unacceptable.' The measure, affecting borders with multiple countries, aims to address irregular migration and internal political pressures. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated it’s for security. However, EU rules allow such measures only as a last resort and Germany's neighbors demand consultations.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has condemned Germany's decision to extend temporary border controls to all land borders, calling it 'unacceptable.' He is among several leaders who criticized the policy, which affects borders with France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Denmark.

The Netherlands and Austria also voiced strong objections.

The move comes in response to irregular migration and follows a high-profile murder case involving a Syrian failed asylum seeker in Solingen, Germany.

The internal German political landscape is also under strain, with conservative and far-right parties criticizing the government's actions.

Despite the controversy, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated the controls are necessary for security reasons.

EU rules allow such measures only as a last resort for up to six months, and Germany's neighbors are demanding urgent consultations.

The European Commission and various local leaders emphasize the need for proportional measures.
