French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris on Friday. The talks will focus on Ukraine's needs amid intensified Russian strikes. The visit includes a military site tour, a National Assembly speech, and has drawn criticism due to its timing before European elections.
French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris on Friday, announced the Elysee Palace.
The discussions will focus on the escalating conflict and Ukraine's needs, especially as Russian strikes intensify both on the front line and against energy infrastructure.
Zelensky's visit follows D-Day commemorations and includes a visit to the Franco-German arms group KNDS near Paris, which manufactures artillery guns used in Ukraine.
Additionally, Zelensky will address France’s National Assembly and meet with the lower house speaker, Yael Braun-Pivet.
The timing of the visit has drawn criticism, notably from Olivier Marleix, leader of the right-wing Republicans, who finds it inappropriate ahead of the European elections.
Earlier, Russian officials warned that French military trainers in Ukraine could be legitimate targets, amid ongoing discussions about France potentially sending military trainers to assist Ukraine.
Despite the tension, Macron has committed to increasing military support for Kyiv, following a February conference on the subject.
