IPhone to Receive Its Biggest Update Yet with iOS 18, Introducing More Freedom for Users

Apple's iOS 18, set to debut this fall, could significantly narrow the gap between the customization freedoms enjoyed by Android users and those available on the iPhone, thanks to an expected feature that allows for a more flexible layout of icons.
According to Mark Gurman, a reliable analyst from Bloomberg, the upcoming iOS 18 could bring substantial changes not only in artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities but also in the appearance of the iPhone's interface.

Although Gurman has revealed relatively few details about the new features he believes will be included in iOS 18, his insights suggest that the home screen will become "more customizable". Currently, iOS offers limited options for users wishing to personalize their home screen layout.

Reports from sources with insight on the matter, as shared by MacRumors, indicate that iOS 18 will allow users far greater control over the arrangement of their home screen. For instance, it will be possible to leave spaces empty – a departure from the current system where the deletion of an app or widget causes subsequent items to shift forward, filling the gap in a domino effect.

If the rumors are accurate, this change with iOS 18 will allow users to leave an icon or an entire row blank, without affecting the placement of other items. In essence, icons and widgets will only appear where the user specifically places them, with no impact on the positioning of other items.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 18 at the WWDC developer conference in June, with the official release likely set for September to all supported devices. This year, enhancements in artificial intelligence are anticipated to take center stage, with the operating system's major updates expected to be founded on AI advancements.
