Inside Julia Fox’s Sensational and Surreal Trip to Schiaparelli Couture

The star’s whirlwind Paris trip with boyfriend Kanye West involved custom outfits, quality time with her design heroes, and a front row seat at the collections.

There is no milestone quite like your first trip to the couture collections—just ask Julia Fox. This week Uncut Gems star made the trip to Paris for a whirlwind weekend of fittings for one-of-a-kind pieces, quality time with her design heroes, and time spent in the City of Lights with her boyfriend, Kanye West. Though she’d already experienced the bustle of fashion month, couture took things to another level. “I feel like the whole trip has been a highlight, to be honest,” Fox shared from Paris. “Creating a custom Schiaparelli look, having dinner at Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy’s home, and the Schiaparelli show which had me levitating into another future dimension.”

Fox and her glam squad of stylists Peri Rosenzweig and Briana Andalore, makeup artist Daniel Kolarick got ready for Schiaparelli at Chateau Voltaire. The team has collaborated with Fox on her most recent looks, and she credits their expertise with broadening her horizons. The outfits they’ve created—Schiaparelli Canadian tuxedos, Matrix-y black leather crop tops, and striking Sies Marjan vintage coats—have felt like a breath of fresh air. “I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone in terms of how I dress,” says Fox. “I’m so happy someone finally succeeded because I’ve had so many stylists try to guide me, but I’m so stubborn.”

Fox didn’t need any convincing to try the statement-making calfskin coat-dress she wore to take in designer Daniel Roseberry’s science fiction cinema-inspired couture show. With its glossy texture and built-in bustier, the piece was sexy, sleek, and appropriately attention-grabbing. Paired with trompe l’oeil thigh-high boots and a golden padlock purse, and the extreme smokey eye Kolarick created using Pat McGrath's cosmetic line it made an instant impression when she and West arrived at the Petit Palais. Fox felt a deep connection to the look and was impressed by the craftsmanship and attention to detail that the Schiaparelli atelier put into the pieces. “Every single part of my outfit was intentional and had a purpose,” she says. “They curated my outfit to fit not just my body, but also my personality and my essence.”

While watching models stroll down the catwalk, Fox couldn’t help but earmark her favorite looks for future reference. Her standouts? Looks that emphasized the collection’s celestial themes, like gowns detailed with golden orreries, or the styles that played up the surrealism. “Where do I even begin!? I loved the pieces that looked like Saturn. I loved the black dress that went into the hat,” says Fox. “Some of the pieces reminded me of The Jetsons meets Breakfast at Tiffany’s, [and] I love the gold embellishments on the gloves.”

Of course, couture week has only just begun, and the optimistic star is looking forward to seeing what comes next in fashion and beyond. “2022 has been truly a dream,” says Fox. “Sometimes I’m like, how is this even my life? Like what glitch in The Matrix caused this? Either way, I’m living, I’m happy, and I’m excited for the future!”
