Government Allocates an Additional 63 Billion Forints for Utility Bills
The Hungarian government has once again allocated funds to aid in the payment of utility bills for residents, drawing 63 billion forints from the utility protection fund.
This allocation follows closely after a similar decision made previously. The funds have been directed to the Ministry of Energy, which is tasked with transferring the amount to electricity and natural gas service providers to support the cost of utilities for the population.
In a separate decision, the government has also reallocated funds towards the hosting of a major sporting event. Specifically, the government has committed 100 million forints and nearly one million dollars towards the organization of the 22nd FINA World Championships in 2027, encompassing competitions in swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, and open water swimming, along with the Masters World Championships.
The allocation in forints is designated for the payment of the 2022 licensing fee required by the Hungarian Swimming Association. Additionally, an amount equivalent to 945,567 US dollars is to be provided as central budget support for the payment of the general sales tax related to the international swimming federation (FINA) championship fee due in 2023. Beyond these expenses, the government has pledged 25 million dollars over the next three years to cover the championship fee, producer services, and local broadcasting costs associated with the event.
This financial strategy highlights the government's commitment to both maintaining utility support for its citizens and investing in significant international sporting events that are expected to bring cultural and economic benefits to Hungary.
