Good News for Samsung Galaxy S20 Series Owners: Extended Update Support
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series have received good news: the series' models will get updates for an additional year beyond the originally planned schedule.
Navigating the maze of software updates for Android devices can be a daunting task. Manufacturers often complicate matters further by not adhering to a unified practice even for their own devices, usually to the detriment of support for their less expensive products.
Samsung's latest devices now start with a seven-year update cycle, beginning with the Galaxy S24 series. However, the 2020 S20 models were launched under a system where Samsung promised three major version updates for the devices, whilst rumors suggested four years of security fixes.
This support was slated to end at the start of this year, yet, users have been granted an extra year of "reprieve," as Samsung has decided to extend the series' support period, according to SamMobile.
This means that the members of the S20 family will definitely receive several security updates, although it hasn't been set in stone that this will exactly equate to one year.
However, users should not expect monthly updates anymore, as the devices move towards a quarterly update cycle as they approach the end of their support period.
