Gasoline Price Surpasses Diesel for the First Time in Months
In an unexpected shift, fuel prices in Hungary are set to change significantly, albeit in different directions, starting this Friday.
According to Holtankoljak.hu, gasoline prices will see a rise of HUF 7 per liter at the wholesale level, whereas diesel prices are anticipated to fall following a HUF 6 wholesale price decrease.
Starting Friday, the average prices at fuel stations across the nation are expected to be:
- Gasoline (95 octane): HUF 650 per liter
- Diesel: HUF 647 per liter
This brings the prices of the two fuel types almost in parity, with gasoline becoming the more expensive option starting this Friday – a scenario not seen since the beginning of August last year.
Despite the recent weekend attack in Iran, an oil price surge has yet to occur, although prices remain high. The price of Brent crude oil per barrel is around $90, WTI at $85, and Ural crude approximately $82.
The global market's performance raises the question of how the Hungarian government will manage the soaring fuel prices domestically. According to Márton Nagy, the Minister of Economic Development, Hungarian fuel prices should be in the mid-range within the region. However, the past weeks have seen a more significant price increase in Hungary compared to neighboring Slovakia.
