French Lawmakers Initiate Impeachment Against Macron
The France Unbowed party is gathering signatures to impeach President Emmanuel Macron after he declined to appoint their candidate as prime minister. The motion requires signatures from at least ten percent of National Assembly members. The impeachment follows Macron’s refusal to comply with the coalition's demands after the July parliamentary election.
The France Unbowed (LFI) party, part of a left-wing coalition, is collecting signatures to impeach President Emmanuel Macron after he declined to appoint their candidate, Lucie Castets, as prime minister.
LFI parliamentary leader Mathilde Panot announced the motion, which requires signatures from at least 10% of National Assembly members, under Article 68 of the French Constitution.
The impeachment effort follows Macron's refusal to comply with the coalition's demands, citing threats to 'institutional stability'.
The LFI, along with the New Popular Front alliance, gained the largest share of seats in the July parliamentary election but fell short of a majority, leading to Macron’s contentious appointments amid political struggles.
