Finn Couple Faces Charges of Severe Child Abuse in Hungary

Authorities uncover disturbing case of an adopted teenager's mistreatment by his adoptive parents in a rural village.
In Hungary, a Finnish couple has been arrested on serious charges of child abuse after allegations emerged regarding their treatment of their adopted son.

The investigation was initiated following a report made by the mother in July 2022, claiming that the 12-year-old boy had disappeared from their family home.

The child was located later that evening, hiding in a neighboring garden under a bush, according to a statement released by the Pécs District Court.

Upon being taken to the hospital, it was found that the child was wearing a diaper and was utilizing it inappropriately, although medical personnel noted that such attire was unnecessary.

It was revealed during the investigation that the couple had moved to a village in Baranya County in the summer of 2022, with both their biological child and the adopted boy.

While they completed all necessary documentation for their biological child and their household, they failed to enroll the adopted child in school or attend to his medical needs.

Reports indicate that the boy was rarely allowed outside, often confined to a small, windowless room partitioned off from the main living area by furniture.

When left alone, he was locked in and instructed to remain there, even being deprived of electricity during the evenings when the couple was not home.

He was reportedly denied meals with the family and was not allowed to use the bathroom or shower facilities, leading to his constant use of a diaper, which was changed only once a day.

The child was bathed outside only once a week, using cold water from a garden hose, even during winter months.

The investigation further uncovered that the boy managed to escape by prying off the back of a closet, then exiting through a balcony door in the kitchen.

A forensic psychologist who assessed the child during the inquiry determined that he exhibited significant mental and emotional developmental delays for his age and was in a state of severe jeopardy regarding his moral, cognitive, and emotional growth.

Following their arrest, the couple was placed under investigation by law enforcement.

A local court has since ordered their detention for four months, pending inquiries into allegations of severe abuse and the endangerment of a minor.

The accused are forbidden from leaving the administrative area of their residence without permission.
