Human implanted with Neuralink brain chip 'can control computer mouse just by thinking', Elon Musk says
Elon Musk announced that the first person with a Neuralink brain chip can now operate a computer mouse with their thoughts.
Musk shared that since the January update, the user has shown significant improvement, and the company focuses on maximizing mouse clicks through thought control.
The chip was implanted after the company was cleared to start human trials in September, offering hope for those with disabilities and potential treatments for conditions like obesity and mental health disorders.
Despite the progress, Neuralink has faced safety concerns and regulatory issues, including a recent fine for mishandling hazardous materials.
The company, valued at roughly $5 billion, has also been urged to clarify investor communications about technology safety, following reports of adverse effects in animal trials.
Musk defended the company, stating that no monkeys have died due to the implant, with any testing on "terminal" monkeys being done to reduce risk.
