Europe experienced its warmest October on record, with average temperatures nearly 2C above the 1991-2020 reference period, the EU body Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) announced Tuesday.
Record daily temperatures were observed in several locations in Western Europe, and a record-warm October was seen in Austria, Switzerland and France, as well as large parts of Italy and Spain.
The only areas of the Continent where this year's October was colder than average were some of the Greek islands and Iceland. While some parts of the Balkans and Greece saw near-average temperatures, it was hotter than average everywhere else.
Globally, October 2022 was 0.41C warmer than the 1991-2020 average and it was only around 0.04C cooler than October 2019 — the warmest October on record — a Copernicus spokesperson said.
