A full road closure is in place as emergency services respond en masse to the scene.
A severe accident occurred on the M7 motorway near Velence, leading to traffic being diverted at Pákozd for those heading towards the capital and at the Kápolnásnyék exit for those traveling towards Letenye – announced Útinform on their website Sunday morning. The Fejér County Police Headquarters reported that
> several separate traffic accidents took place on the morning of Sunday at the 44-kilometer mark of the M7 motorway, in the Velence region, presumably due to the poor visibility conditions created by the dense fog.
Dozens of vehicles were involved in the accidents. Authorities are conducting scene investigation and technical rescue operations under a total road closure. Traffic jams of several kilometers have been reported in both directions.
Vehicles collided at multiple locations on both sides of the motorway. Near Pázmánd, on the side heading towards Balaton, multiple vehicles crashed at two locations. On the side heading towards the capital, in the region of Pákozd, a series of crashes took place over a several hundred-meter stretch – reported the disaster protection service.
Emergency teams are sequentially de-energizing the vehicles involved in the accidents, and paramedics are also present at the scenes of the crashes, they added. PÁL GYŐRFI, the spokesperson for the National Ambulance Service, confirming information received by MTI, stated: MULTIPLE AMBULANCE UNITS, INCLUDING AN AIR AMBULANCE, HAVE ARRIVED AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT, AND THE RESCUE AND TREATMENT OF THE INJURED ARE UNDERWAY.
Útinform previously mentioned that it is possible to bypass the accident by exiting at the 30-kilometer martonvásári exit and taking Highway 7. They added: on the M7 motorway, in the region of Lake Velence, visibility conditions are poor in many places. The length of the visible road section could drop below 100 meters at times, hence it’s advisable to maintain a larger following distance.
