Bicske's mayor issues a warning regarding safety threats; law enforcement reassures community of ongoing measures.
The mayor of Bicske, Istvánné Bálint, has issued a dramatic warning concerning the potential threat to public safety in the town, stating that a dangerous situation is developing.
This announcement was made via a short video posted on her
Facebook page over the weekend, where she mentioned receiving feedback from residents indicating rising concerns.
Mayor Bálint urged citizens to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, advising them to trust official authorities to handle the situation.
However, she did not specify the exact threats to public safety, only revealing that she had reached out to officials from the Hungarian National Railway (MÁV) and the local police chief of Fejér County.
In the comments section of the video, some residents indicated that drug trafficking groups have reportedly surfaced in the area, expressing dissatisfaction over the perceived lack of decisive action from local law enforcement against these groups.
In response to inquiries from the public, the Fejér County Police Headquarters confirmed that officers periodically check the railway station and its surroundings to maintain public order and safety.
However, they stated that they could not provide further details on specific criminal investigations to protect the effectiveness of ongoing inquiries.
Meanwhile, the mayor was contacted for clarification regarding the video, specifically whether there had been any community initiatives aimed at confronting alleged drug distributors.
As of this report, there has been no response from the mayor's office.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old girl was apprehended in Mohács, who had six outstanding arrest warrants against her.
The girl was taken into custody on Kismohács Street.
She was being sought for involvement in three instances of hooliganism, two thefts, and for previously leaving a children’s home without permission.
Following her arrest, she was taken to the police station for processing.
Additionally, the Budapest Chief Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against a 51-year-old man accused of robbing women as they exited night buses near the Ecseri út metro station in autumn 2023. According to the prosecution, the man, who has a criminal history, attempted to snatch a bag from a victim with such force that it fell to the ground.
When the victim held onto her bag firmly, he physically assaulted her, causing injuries that required more than eight days to heal.
After the incident, assistance was provided by a passing taxi driver.
In a more severe second attack, the man followed another woman and struck her multiple times with a blunt object, causing life-threatening injuries.
The victim cried for help, prompting the assailant to flee the scene before taking her belongings.
The suspect was identified and apprehended by police within three days following the incidents.
The prosecution has requested a lengthy prison sentence for the defendant, who is charged with attempted robbery while armed, causing serious bodily harm, and other offenses.
