Apple has unveiled a groundbreaking feature in its latest AirPods Pro 2, launching on September 20.
Priced at one dollar 245, the new AirPods double as hearing aids for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss, presenting an affordable alternative to traditional prescription hearing aids which can cost thousands.
According to the CDC, there are over 1.5 billion people living with hearing loss globally, yet only a small percentage receive proper care.
To address this, Apple has developed a Hearing Test feature, allowing users to store results in their Health App and create a customized hearing profile.
Dr. Sumbul Desai, Apple’s VP of Health, emphasized the importance of hearing health and the company’s commitment to making advanced hearing solutions accessible.
This innovation follows the FDA's historic ruling allowing over-the-counter hearing aids and reflects the growing competition in the hearing aid market, with companies like Google also developing AI-based solutions.
