An Oscar-Winning Director’s Striking Concrete-and-Glass Villa Offers a Tranquil Escape in L.A.

An Oscar-Winning Director’s Striking Concrete-and-Glass Villa Offers a Tranquil Escape in L.A.

The brutalist compound owned by acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow features a poolside guesthouse and sweeping canyon views.

Academy Award–winning director Kathryn Bigelow is once again seeking a new buyer for her Los Angeles home, located between Beverly Hills and Studio City. Nearly three decades after buying the estate in 1989, the Hollywood filmmaker listed the property for $12,900,000 in 2018. Now, the serene villa is back on the market-this time with a slightly lower price tag of $8,900,000.

Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow-who is well known for numerous Hollywood films including Zero Dark Thirty-is selling her Los Angeles compound, which includes a main residence and a poolside guesthouse, as well as a three-car garage.

Set on a secluded two-acre lot at the end of a long, gated road, the 6,300-square-foot property overlooks a sunny valley while surrounded by lush landscaping. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is comprised of three distinct structures: a main residence, a poolside guesthouse, and a spacious studio that sits above a three-car garage.

In the main residence, a black fireplace set inside a floor-to-ceiling slab of concrete anchors the light-filled living room.

The main residence features a sleek, concrete exterior, which is complemented by wood-clad garage doors. Inside the refined structure, 16-foot-tall ceilings create a spacious, loft-like aesthetic, with exposed beams that dramatically contrast the paneled hardwoods and polished concrete floors.

Towering, 16-foot-tall ceilings elevate the home’s grand proportions, which are further enhanced by the large glass windows and doors that line the primary living areas.

On the main residence’s upper level, a free-flowing layout connects the primary living spaces, which allows for easy movement throughout the home. The expansive living areas feature tall windows and glass doors that draw in plenty of natural light while framing the surrounding scenery.

The brutalist compound highlights a striking blend of materials including wood, steel, glass, and concrete.

On the lower level, a double-height principal suite spans an entire wing of the home. Complete with a glass-walled bedroom and separate area for lounging, it also includes a lofted sitting room, a walk-in closet, and a spa-like bathroom with a cedar sauna.

The home offers a total of four bedrooms, including a principal suite on the lower level of the main residence.

In addition to its grand sense of space, the main residence’s other highlights include a media lounge with a state-of-the-art projection system, as well as a sophisticated office that features floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

Outside, a stone staircase weaves through the landscaped grounds to a glistening backyard swimming pool, where a turn-key guesthouse sits just steps away. The sprawling studio above the garage also offers additional space for visitors, and can easily be used as an additional home office. The en suite bathroom features a double-sink vanity, as well as a cedar sauna.

Polished concrete floors continue into each of the four bedrooms.

A stone walkway shaded by towering trees connects the property’s three concrete structures.

The backyard includes a long, sparkling pool with an adjacent guesthouse and spa.

Thick vegetation surrounding the two-acre property ensures ample privacy for residents seeking a tranquil city escape.
