A recent report has surfaced alleging that a doctor at the Budapesti Uzsoki Utcai Kórház offered a patient an expedited surgery in exchange for a payment of approximately 2.5 to 2.8 million forints.

The patient, requiring hip surgery, was initially given a surgery date in 2030—six years from the current date—according to her statements to RTL Híradó.

The patient, suffering from chronic hip pain for years, revisited the hospital’s orthopedic department after previous treatments failed to alleviate her condition.

Upon expressing surprise at the long wait time for surgery, the patient alleged that the doctor proposed an alternative option involving a considerable fee to advance the date of the surgery.

She also reported that the doctor advised her to make a quick decision due to potential upcoming price increases in March.

The patient, unable to afford the quoted amount, chose not to proceed with the payment.

This revelation comes amid broader discussions regarding privatization and potential misallocation of resources in Hungary’s healthcare system.

Previously, MP Hadházy Ákos publicly accused former politician Papcsák Ferenc of exploiting state hospital capacities for personal gain within Uzsoki's VIP department.

However, the hospital has refuted these claims, stating that Hadházy's assertions are misleading, clarifying that past emergency care cases did not disadvantage publicly funded healthcare participants.

The hospital has not released any specific comment on the current allegations concerning the hip surgery case.
