A Striking Home in the Santa Monica Mountains

A Striking Home in the Santa Monica Mountains

Designed by Ellis David Gelman, this three-bedroom residence is nestled in the heart of wine country.

In Agoura Hills, California-about a 45-minute drive from Los Angeles-stands a striking, contemporary home surrounded by gardens. Built in 2006, the three-bedroom residence was designed by Ellis David Gelman, the acclaimed architect behind Malibu’s futuristic Star Trek home.

The single-family residence is located on a pristine .81-acre lot in Agoura Hills, California—just 15 miles north of Malibu and 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. It was designed by Ellis David Gelman in 2006, and has been further updated by its current owners.

Upon arrival, a generous entryway opens to the home’s primary gathering spaces. Clerestory windows span the walls, illuminating the interior with natural light.

Pilotis elevate the property a full floor above the ground, providing the interiors with views of Lake Enchanto and the Santa Monica Mountains. "I've never seen anything like this home in Los Angeles," says listing agent Alan Taylor. "I spoke at length with Gelman about his inspiration, and he really saw this as an opportunity to create a modern residence that offers thoughtful design and effortless function."

In the living room, a long wet bar capped with black countertops hugs the fireplace.

The dining area sits in-between the living room and kitchen, and offers direct outdoor access. Hardwood floors run throughout the interiors, contrasting with the home’s neutral color palette.

The dwelling measures over 3,000 square feet, and it features spacious living areas connected by an open floor plan. Large windows wrap the exterior, allowing natural light to sweep inside.

Sliding glass doors extend the living and dining area outside, where an expansive terrace offers views of the landscaped grounds. Steps away from the main residence, two kitHAUS modules serve as ancillary spaces for creative endeavors.

Wood accents continue in the open-concept kitchen, which features custom cabinetry, stainless-steel appliances, and casual bar seating.

Large windows make the home office another sun-filled corner to work and/or unwind.

In total, the home offers three bedrooms, three and a half baths, and a daylit office with custom built-ins. The estate last sold in 2010 for $1,630,000, and now it’s back on the market seeking $2,699,000. Scroll ahead to see more of the property.

The primary bath includes a custom cabinet unit that acts as a partition.

The partially shaded side terrace encourages indoor/outdoor living.

The home is located in the Santa Monica Mountains, and it offers sweeping views of its sublime site.
