7 Celebrity Stylists Share Their Go-To Pieces for the Red Carpet

With these picks from top stylists, you can instantly glam-ify your own wardrobe, too.

Remember dressing up? It seems like an eternity since we’ve been able to get super-glam for a party or an event. For celebrities, however, things have been a little different: This awards season, stars have still been slipping into their finest evening attire for various ceremonies like the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. Even though there’s no physical red carpets to be had, and many of these shows are virtual, they’ve made sure to bring dazzling fashions even for their Zoomed-in appearances.

This approach got us thinking: We’re all missing getting dressed up, even if it’s just to stay home. Whether it’s for a birthday, a special anniversary, or just a regular Tuesday, why shouldn’t we go all out this year? Whereas 2020 was the year of cozy sweatsuits, this year is all about putting the fun back into fashion-even if nobody sees it, at least for now. And who better to ask for some styling tips than some of Hollywood’s leading stylists?

Below, Vogue reached out to a handful of reading red carpet dressers to get their tips on how to instantly glam-ify our wardrobes-from what earrings to wear, to what fragrances to put on. We might not be able to live the life of a famous A-list celebrity, but we sure can dress like one.

Below, seven stylists share their secret weapons for red carpet dressing.

Harry Lambert

(Styles: Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, Josh O'Connor)

I am a big fan of Eliou, founded by Dua & Cristina, a brand that employs women based in Miami. It’s my favorite go-to jewelry brand. The brand has transformed pearls into something statement, modern but affordable. Pearls go with everything! These will never fail to wow and elevate an outfit, whether casual or evening. I am also a big fan of a classic stiletto, especially in patent black. I always have a pair of these in my styling kitbag when dressing for red carpets-they complement and elevate every outfit.

Wayman + Micah

(Styles: Regina King, Kelly Marie Tran, Tessa Thompson)

We love to instantly upgrade a look with a bold lip and some great statement jewels. The Lip Bar has beautiful bold colors made for all skin ranges, really bringing any outfit to life. We Dream In Color has an amazing variety of bold earrings that can electrify even the simplest of looks. Lorraine West makes beautiful rings, bracelets, and earrings in strong metals which are perfect for pumping up the energy of an outfit. Although, the most important accessory to elevate any look is confidence!

Erin Walsh

(Styles: Anne Hathaway, Lucy Hale, Ashley Park)

I think to bring “glam” or “awards season,” you need a go-to earring or piece of jewelry that grounds you and makes you feel great. For me, this has been Jennifer Fisher’s hoop range, which literally can boost any kind of outfit and always make me feel like a cool power woman. I am also loving the eclectic, fun range of brands like Lizzie Fortunato and Eliou-it puts some color and funk to spice up even the most mundane (yet glorious) of outfits, like a beige sweatsuit. Have a look at a luxe PJ set, too. I am obsessed with Olivia Von Halle. I am also big on fragrance; smells have the ability to transport you. I am loving Heretic's green options and Lumière Jasmin oils from French Girls. These instantly give me a boost.

Micaela Erlanger

(Styles: Lupita Nyong’o, Susan Kelechi Watson, Constance Wu)

I think this year it is all about your accessories. We have seen such a focus on jewelry, since that frames the face-especially with video chats and Zoom meetings being the new normal. Invest in some statement bling, such as diamond earrings or a necklace from Forevermark.

Thomas Christos Kikis

(Styles: Gabrielle Union, AnnaSophia Robb)

Glowing skin elevates every appearance-on an actual red carpet or video call. I cannot get enough of this [111 SKIN serum]. I also love a thick cuban chain worn with T-shirts or tuxedos. I keep going back to this Chrome Hearts necklace; it’s the perfect mix of elevated and easy. I’ve been using it a lot on Gabrielle [Union].

Maeve Reilly

(Styles: Hailey Bieber, Megan Fox)

There is nothing more glamorous than Amina Muaddi’s crystal lace up sandals. All of Amina’s shoes are so unique, but also really wearable-she’s giving us a fresh take on classic styles and I am here for it. I have been loving the Milan based jewelry company, Eéra. These Chiara earrings make a statement in a tasteful way. They’re a great way to bring some glam into your own closet. The Cartier Panthère watch is such a classic, timeless piece that looks like jewelry and elevates every outfit. It’s an investment piece that will never go out of style.

Avo Yermagyan

(Styles: Nick Jonas, Leslie Odom Jr.)

Layer your jewelry to add a bit of anarchy and attitude to an otherwise polite and traditional suit. The more variety in the size of the pieces of jewelry, the better. Having them all in one metallic finish to keep the look streamlined and polished. Also, layer a bright-colored underpinning under your button-down to add an unexpected punch and a striking new look to your simple suiting. I suggest going for a shocking color to refresh a suit you already have in your closet. Don’t be shy, and remember, fashion favors the bold.
