Sziget Festival Announces Kylie Minogue as Latest Big Name Performer
The Sziget Festival, set to take over Budapest from August 7 to 12 this year, has added another high-profile act to its lineup with the announcement that Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue will perform on the opening day.
Previously, the festival’s organizers had revealed an impressive roster of artists set to grace the stage, including Liam Gallagher, Tom Odell, Raye, Halsey, Janelle Monáe, and Skrillex. Minogue, who shot to global fame in the late '80s, has remained a successful and significant figure in the music industry over the past three decades, captivating audiences with her catchy and enjoyable pop tunes.
Starting her career as a child actress with a notable stint on the Australian soap opera "Neighbours," Minogue transitioned to music in 1987 and has since sold over 80 million records worldwide. She is best known for hits such as "I Should Be So Lucky," "Spinning Around," "Can’t Get You Out Of My Head," "Slow," and the duet with Nick Cave, "Where The Wild Roses Grow." Her latest album, "Tension," released in 2023, features the Grammy Award-winning song "Padam Padam." This upcoming performance marks Minogue’s first return to Budapest since her 2014 show, promising fans an unforgettable night on August 7.
The festival lineup further includes acts like Sam Smith, Stormzy, One Direction alum Louis Tomlinson, and Fontaines D.C., among approximately fifty other acts already announced. Attendees can also look forward to performances by the platinum-certified Los Angeles rock band LANY, known for their billions of streams and widespread critical acclaim, and Yves Tumor, who is celebrated for their experimental blend of rock, electronics, and psychedelic music. Halsey will be preceded by an Azahriah concert on Thursday.
Beyond the main stage, the newly announced improvisational funk and hip-hop electronica artist Marc Rebillet will provide more musical delights. Organizers also unveiled new amenities for this year’s festival, including a welcome zone offering services like battery rental, baggage storage, Festipay purchases, and a lost and found.
Significant technical improvements include the division of the tower in front of the Main Stage for better visibility. Assistance zones and enhancements to the health center aim to ensure a safe festival experience. The festival will also expand its budget food sector, offering a wide range of affordable vegetarian, vegan, and main dishes.
Kádár Tamás, the festival's chief organizer, highlighted the surge in early bird ticket sales, especially among Hungarian attendees who, for the first time in years, purchased the majority of Early Bird six-day passes. He also noted that daily ticket prices have not increased on average, and with the introduction of U21 passes for those under 21, young people can access tickets at even lower prices than last year.
Sustainability remains a key focus in the catering sector, with partners required to use paper or biodegradable materials instead of plastic bags, disposable plates, utensils, and other packaging. Drinking water stations will be expanded within the food courts.
The festival will also feature zones such as Civil Sziget and Think for Tomorrow, addressing societal issues from youth perspectives, and XS Land focusing on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, all part of the FutureGrounds zone. The ArtFusion Field will encompass various cultural and community-building activities, inviting attendees to explore areas such as ArtGarden, a theatrical venue, the Great Street Theatre, the Museum of Applied Arts, Cirque du Sziget, and Vándor Vurstli.
