Simple Settings Can Significantly Extend Your iPhone's Battery Life
Battery life is a critical aspect of smartphone performance, including iPhones.
We've gathered a few tips to help Apple's phones last longer on a single charge.
As a phone ages, its operating time on a single charge decreases. While miracles shouldn't be expected due to battery aging, a few simple steps can prolong the device's operation time.
Limit Location Services: Running in the background, these often aren't needed but can significantly drain the battery if the device continually shares your location with apps. It's worth spending some time checking whether you need location tracking for various apps.
Go to Settings > Privacy and Security, then select Location Services. For each app, you can choose Never, Ask Next Time or When I Share, While Using the App, or Always. Adjusting these settings can significantly improve battery life.
Turn Off Background App Refresh: iPhone apps usually update automatically, which, while helpful, can continuously drain the battery. Turning off background app refresh doesn’t cause any issues since apps can update upon opening. This can be done by selecting Off in the General > Background App Refresh menu.
Enable Low Power Mode: This mode reduces background activity such as automatic downloads and email fetching, and decreases screen brightness, allowing the phone to use less power while still functioning normally and receiving all notifications. Low Power Mode can be enabled in Settings > Battery, and can also be added to the Control Center for easy access.
Reduce Screen Brightness: The higher the screen brightness, the more battery it uses. If you're not outdoors needing high brightness, consider reducing it via the Control Center, which can be accessed by sliding down the screen, where brightness can be adjusted with a slider.
Turn Off WiFi, Bluetooth, Mobile Network, and AirDrop When Not in Use: These functions search for connections and use battery power. They can be easily turned off in the Control Center (turning their icons gray) or in the Settings menu under the respective options. For AirDrop, navigate to Settings > General > AirDrop and select Receiving Off.
Enable Auto-Lock: The longer the display stays on, the more energy it consumes. Enabling auto-lock turns off the display when the phone is not manually used. This can be set in Settings > Display and Brightness > Auto-Lock. The default setting is 30 seconds.
Monitor Your Phone's Temperature: According to the iPhone User Guide, the device is designed to operate between 0 and 35 degrees Celsius and stored between -20 and 45 degrees Celsius. Operating or storing the phone outside these ranges can shorten the battery's life. Therefore, maintaining optimal performance involves monitoring its temperature. If outside in cold temperatures, keep the phone as warm as possible. Remove it from its case while charging if it starts to warm up.
Always Update to the Latest Available iOS: Newer iOS versions include bug fixes and updates that improve the phone's overall performance, positively impacting battery life.
By following these tips, you can extend your iPhone's battery life and ensure it operates efficiently for as long as possible.
