The Federal Aviation Administration instructed traffic controllers to communicate the situation to airborne pilots.
Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike clarified that the outage was not a cyberattack but a software issue.
Both Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz assured users that the problem is being resolved.
