MEP Krah Accesses 'Sensitive' EU Documents Amid Espionage and Corruption Allegations: Call for Internal Probe
MEP Maximilian Krah, a German far-right politician from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, is under investigation for espionage and corruption allegations.
The European Parliament's trade committee chair, Bernd Lange, confirmed that Krah had accessed "sensitive" documents from the committee's internal online system, SharePoint, over the years.
The documents' nature was not specified.
Krah is being investigated for accepting payments from Russia and China for his work as an MEP. Lange, a German politician, denied that Maximilian Krah, a fellow politician, received "restricted" documents through the trade committee.
The term "limited/sensitive" refers to confidential information that isn't necessarily secret.
Lange stated that Krah never received EU Restricted documents.
However, Lange expressed disappointment that there are no clear facts or names regarding the corruption allegations involving Russia and China against Krah.
German public prosecutors in Dresden have initiated investigations into these allegations.
German authorities arrested one of aide to German parliamentarian Krah, identified as Jian G., on Monday for alleged spying for China.
Jian G., a German-Chinese citizen, is accused of passing on internal European Parliament information to China, including details about a motion against China's persecution of minorities like the Uyghurs and Tibetans.
The Federal Prosecutor General is investigating this case, and Jian G.
