Personal data of 73 million current or former customers of AT&T have been leaked online.
The American telecommunications giant announced that information including addresses, social security numbers, and passwords had been published on the dark web.
AT&T stated that it found no evidence that the data had been stolen but enlisted the help of cybersecurity experts for the investigation. The company also announced that it had reset the passwords of its customers. AT&T urged its customers to "remain vigilant and monitor account activity and credit reports."
It is unclear whether the data leaked from the company's own systems or through a third-party vendor, according to the company's statement. The leaked information includes full names, email addresses, and dates of birth; however, AT&T claimed that financial data did not fall into the hands of data thieves.
AT&T's wireless 5G network covers approximately 290 million people across the United States, making it one of the country's largest mobile and internet service providers.
