The die-off was first noticed when dead perch began appearing on the inner side of the Aliga marina.

The situation escalated rapidly, prompting immediate investigation and response efforts.

Fish kills of this nature have previously been documented, with similar occurrences noted in other nearby locations, including Fonyód and Balatonboglár, beginning as early as February of this year.

The affected areas share a common characteristic: the mortality has occurred exclusively within the sheltered waters of the marinas, where fish have typically gathered for winter.

According to reports from the Balaton Fish Management Company, particularly under the comments of Gábor Nagy, the director of the company's fishing sector, it appears that the presence of predatory fish, which have entered the area seeking food, may have exacerbated the conditions for the resident fish populations.

Environmental assessments indicate that one of the critical factors leading to the significant fish mortality is the depletion of oxygen levels in certain areas of the lake.

This phenomenon has been linked to the overcrowding of fish that were fleeing from predators, causing stress and subsequent death due to insufficient oxygen availability.

Efforts to collect the dead fish are ongoing, but officials have stated that the cleanup process will take several days to complete, highlighting the logistical challenges posed by the volume of fish involved.
