Marcelito Pomoy: From Orphaned Street Child to Unrivaled Singing Sensation

Marcelito Pomoy, famously known as the "dual-voice singer," has overcome daunting life challenges to become a worldwide sensation.
The Filipino talent first captured his country’s heart in the early 2010s with his extraordinary vocal range, effortlessly performing both male and female parts in songs. Pomoy's breakthrough came on the "Pilipinas Got Talent" stage, mesmerizing the judges with his solo rendition of "The Prayer" by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.

His fame reached the United States, where he competed in "America’s Got Talent: The Champions," ranking fourth against a lineup of prior champions with his solo performance of the "Beauty and the Beast" duet. Now, on May 24, 2024, Pomoy is set to dazzle Hungary at the Tüskecsarnok, where we had the pleasure of discussing his journey.

Marcelito Pomoy remains a humble and kind-hearted individual, despite his challenging upbringing. Abandoned by his mother and with a father imprisoned, Pomoy was raised by adoptive parents until he could fend for himself. Throughout his teenage years, he worked odd jobs, discovering and honing his unique vocal talent that can span both baritone and mezzo-soprano.

His road to success wasn’t easy, requiring immense personal strength and a stroke of luck. Now, Pomoy has chosen Hungary as the center of his European career, collaborating with local organizers for international performances and working on his album, which will include original songs alongside covers. The album’s production involves Pierpaolo Guerrini, known for his work with Andrea Bocelli.

Pomoy admits skeptically treating the offer to work in Hungary initially, fearing deceit. Given the rough landscape of the Philippines' entertainment scene, where opportunists often exploit talents, Pomoy and his wife-manager trod carefully, verifying offers' authenticity, including a coveted invitation to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

Dismissed by producers of "Pilipinas Got Talent," Pomoy faced disillusionment. Yet, spurred by his wife, he pursued a radio opportunity that reignited his career, leading to his appearance on Ellen DeGeneres's show and, subsequently, "America’s Got Talent: The Champions."

Despite his international acclaim, Pomoy had primarily performed covers due to the scarcity of original songs written for him. However, that's about to change with his upcoming album, reflecting both his journey and the breadth of his musical ability.

Marcelito Pomoy's story is not just about fame; it's a testament to resilience, talent, and the unpredictable arcs of life that brought him from the streets of the Philippines to global stages. With his upcoming performance in Hungary and a new album on the horizon, Pomoy continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
