Hungarian Foreign Minister confirms ongoing operations to ensure the safety of citizens.
Hungarian authorities are currently undertaking several evacuation operations in the Middle East to assist Hungarian nationals wishing to return home.
This announcement was made by Péter Szijjártó, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in a statement reported earlier this week.
The situation in the region has intensified, with conflicts escalating between Iran and Israel.
Szijjártó noted that attacks have extended beyond the capitals of the two countries to multiple other locations, increasing the risk for Hungarian citizens in the area.
The minister emphasized that as more Hungarians seek to return to safety, the government is organizing their evacuation.
Compounding the challenge of these operations, flights in and out of both Iran and Israel are currently restricted due to closed airspace, which Szijjártó highlighted as a factor making the evacuation processes more complex than usual.
He stated that updates on the operations will only be provided once the individuals in question are safely relocated.
The humanitarian situation has become critical, with reports indicating that the death toll from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has exceeded four hundred.
In a notable diplomatic intervention, former U.S. President
Donald Trump has suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin could play a role in mediating between the two nations.
Szijjártó mentioned that the majority of the evacuation efforts are being conducted independently by Hungarian authorities, although some operations are being coordinated in collaboration with Slovak officials.
