Hungarian Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Brutal Crime

Hungarian Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Brutal Crime

K. András, known as 'Muki', has received a 20-year prison sentence for heinous acts committed at the age of 15.
On Tuesday, a ruling was announced in Szeged County Court concerning K. András, also known as 'Muki'.

The man, who has gained significant weight during his incarceration, committed a brutal crime in the summer of 2006 at the age of 15.

K. András was found guilty of robbing, raping, and subsequently tying the then 18-year-old Henrietta Pénzes to a tree and setting her on fire.

Workers harvesting onions discovered Henrietta and called for an ambulance.

Medical professionals battled for her life for three weeks, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

K. András never expressed remorse to Henrietta's family, maintaining his position that he did not kill her.

In November 2007, the Szeged Court imposed a maximum sentence of 15 years on him for the heinous murder.

The judge indicated that had the defendant been over 18 at the time of the crime, he would have received a life sentence.

During his imprisonment in the juvenile section of the Kecskemét prison, K. András participated in various physical fitness programs.

By the time of his release in July 2021, he had gained a substantial amount of weight, weighing nearly 100 kg.

Since his release, K. András has struggled to reintegrate into life in Makó.

By September 2023, the Csongrád County Prosecutor's Office refiled charges against him for attempted murder as a repeat offender.

The charges allege that in June 2022, a year after his release, he attempted to kill his half-sister, Katalin, who had taken him into her home post-incarceration.

Following his release, K. András began to dominate the household, expecting his family members to cater to his needs.

Tensions escalated into multiple disputes between him and Katalin.

On several occasions, he made deadly threats against her and even brandished a knife during one confrontation.

The prosecution indicated that the events culminated on March 28, 2022, when Katalin made an inappropriate comment about their mother.

This comment triggered a violent reaction from K. András, who allegedly grabbed Katalin by the throat, threatening to kill her.

Witnesses claim that Katalin was only able to escape through a physical intervention in which she clawed at his face.

During the trial, K. András expressed regret that he did not succeed in killing his sister.

The prosecutor's office charged him with attempted murder as a repeat offender, asserting that he had squandered his opportunity for a new life.

The prosecutor emphasized that the absence of a completed murder charge should not warrant leniency.

K. András’s defense attorney claimed inconsistencies in witness statements, arguing that while his client was capable of killing, he did not intend to do so.

In an emotional plea, K. András stated that he did not wish to kill anyone but had only wanted to address issues regarding their mother's gravesite.

The presiding judge noted the defendant's prior criminal history as a significant factor during sentencing and identified the circumstances of the crime as aggravating factors, particularly given that it was committed against a family member who offered him a chance at rehabilitation.

Following the verdict, both the prosecution and defense indicated intentions to appeal, with the prosecution seeking a harsher sentence and the defense advocating for leniency.
