Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán Expresses Gratitude to Jacques Delors

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has expressed his profound gratitude to Jacques Delors for his contributions during his visit to a memorial service in Paris, France. The service was held in honor of the former President of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, who passed away on December 27th.
Speaking to the TF1 French television network on Friday, the Hungarian premier recalled Delors's visit to Hungary in 1989 during the communist era. "We were preparing for a transition, and I was active in the anti-communist resistance movement; he had the courage to come before the first (free) elections," Orbán noted. In Hungary, "we remember him as a European leader who fought or at least tried to do something for the freedom and sovereignty of Central European countries under Soviet occupation."

"We, Hungarians, are very grateful to him for what he did for us," Orbán added. The legacy of Jacques Delors's commitment to the ideals of freedom and sovereignty continues to resonate with the Hungarian people who admire his stand during a pivotal historical period.
