Hospital Debts Jump by 30 Billion Forints in One Month
As of the end of January, hospital debts in Hungary stood at "only" 81 billion forints, but by the end of February, this figure had soared to 110 billion forints.
Data from the Hungarian State Treasury (MÁK) indicates that, by the end of February, hospitals were grappling with a debt of 88.4 billion forints. This figure does not include the debts of four medical universities undergoing a model change, which, according to László Rásky, Secretary General of the Medical Technology Association, amounted to 18.7 billion forints by the end of February. Thus, the total unpaid bills of hospitals reached approximately 110 billion forints by the end of the month.
Economx reports that, just one month prior in January, the collective debt of hospitals including university clinics was 81 billion forints. This means that the hospitals' debt increased by about 30 billion forints in a single month.
Regarding the breakdown of the debts at the end of February, Economx cites MÁK's data: nearly 0.8 billion forints were owed to the state, 0.4 billion forints to the social insurance fund, and the remaining 83.2 billion forints were payable to suppliers and service providers.
