The Capital Court of Budapest has confirmed the initial ruling to detain István Holló, a Ukrainian national, who is under suspicion of espionage.
The court's decision, announced on Wednesday, extends his detention for another thirty days.
Holló was apprehended in May and faces allegations of espionage alongside other criminal activities.
Máté Kocsis, the leader of the Fidesz parliamentary group, stated in a recent press conference that Hungarian intelligence services have been aware of Holló for some time.
He is accused of engaging in active espionage aimed at gaining insights into Hungary's military and energy sectors in collaboration with Ukrainian military intelligence.
The Hungarian government has further accused former chief of staff Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi of having connections with Holló.
In response to these allegations, Péter Magyar countered, asserting that Holló had ties with several individuals associated with Fidesz concerning the supply of
COVID-19 rapid test kits to the state.
Kocsis also indicated that more Ukrainian spies have been identified within Hungary, noting that one of them had met with several leading opposition politicians.
Ruszin-Szendi was reportedly in contact with Holló on two occasions in public settings with large groups present.
Furthermore, Magyar mentioned that the individual accused of espionage maintained a close relationship with the leadership of Fidesz.
