Historic Building of Former Copenhagen Exchange Catches Fire
The historic building of the former stock exchange in Denmark's capital caught fire, leading authorities to close surrounding streets, the Danish police reported on X this Tuesday.
Thick smoke and towering flames emanated from the building in Copenhagen now housing the Danish Chamber of Commerce early this morning, with its tower collapsing. The Copenhagen police stated that the area would remain closed off for an extended period.
The cause of the fire is yet unclear. According to initial reports, there have been no injuries. The building, completed in 1625 and designed in the Dutch Renaissance style featuring a distinctive tower, had already been scaffolded for renovation. The restoration work aimed to correct faults from repairs in the last century and restore the façade to its original appearance.
